Thursday Mornings!
At Church House, the house which adjoins Mayfield Salisbury church and where there are comfortable rooms in which groups meet, Thursday mornings are becoming ever busier!
For many years a very successful ‘Thursday Coffee’ has taken place there each week throughout the year, providing company and a comfy seat for all who drop in for a coffee and a chat.
Now a new group, ‘Craft Moments’, is also meeting there fortnightly in the adjoining room where there are suitable tables for craft.
‘Craft Moments’ has been formed in response to the success of the craft afternoon held during the Festival of Ageing and Faith at Mayfield Salisbury in 2011. The Wisdom Group, a group of older people who put forward ideas for the Festival, recommended learning, physical activity, creative activity and socialising as the four most important things for healthy ageing. So between them our two groups: one long established and one new, in their different ways, are providing space and time for these recommendations to be met.
‘Craft Moments’ is a great place, for example, for those who want to bring along and get on with that craft project they have always meant to finish! Others are planning to knit blanket squares, hats and scarves for the Bethany Trust, or jerseys for babies in Africa. There are plenty of needles and balls of wool!
On 10th January, at the first meeting of ‘Craft Moments’, there were nine diligent knitters and one cross-stitcher, much chat, lots of coffee, and several jerseys and squares started. Meanwhile next door, there was a goodly number enjoying a less active, but no less enjoyable time, of coffee, conversation and rest.
